Chargers Finish 1st at Pneumonia Invitational

By Wes McCurtis

VICTORVILLE, CA – The Cypress College men's golf team finished 1st out of 16 teams representing Southern California in Monday's Pneumonia Invitational at Spring Valley Lake Country Club (Par 72).

The Chargers dominated the four-ball match, shooting an impressive 189 (-27) as a team, which was 5 strokes better than runner-up College of the Canyons (194). Freshman Andrew Thomson and sophomore Brandon Menyes led the way for Cypress as they each shot a 68 (-4) on the day to finish as individual co-medalists.

The Cypress College men's golf team has lived up to their high expectations in the pre-season thus far. This match was a great measuring stick, as every team from the Southern California region participated, with the exception of Ventura and Palomar, who have already been bested by the Chargers this season.

"We played exceptionally well. Now we can't let up and we need to take the momentum into Wednesday's first Orange Empire Conference match," said Coach Dana Bedard.
