Cypress Defeat Cougars in Close Victory, 60-58

Cypress, CA - The Cypress Chargers (6-5) pulled off a close win against College of the Canyons (4-5) on Tuesday night, 60-58. 

Mark Onyejekwe (15 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal), Jordan Taylor (10 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists), and Hadi Essayli (7 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block). 

The Chargers had a slow start from the opening tip with a 0-10 deficit in the first half, but with sparks from Hadi Essayli and Cristian Butler the Chargers quickly came back to make it 11-10. Mark Onyejekwe put up three 3-pointers in the first half to keep the Charger's lead, and at the end of the first half the score was 31-28. 

The Cougars battled back in the beginning of the second half to keep the game close, but with a steal and bucket from Slater Miller, the Chargers retained their momentum. With 1:38 left in the game, it was all tied up at 55-55. A crucial 3-pointer from Grant Sii with a minute left put the Chargers on top, which was quickly followed by a layup from Mark Onyejekwe making the score 60-55. The Canyons Cougars had an excellent offensive play which made the score 60-58 with 8 seconds left and possession. However, the impressive defensive effort from the Chargers prevented the comeback and led to the home victory. 

 

UP NEXT: Men's basketball will return to action on Friday, December 16 against LA Southwest College. Tip-off is scheduled at 5PM.
