Chargers Sweep at the Monterey Bay Classic

MONTEREY BAY, CA- The Chargers men's basketball team (4-5, 0-0 OEC) won three in a row over the Dec. 1st-3rd weekend. Cypress was successful in defeating all three colleges they faced in Hartnell, Diablo Valley and Monterey Peninsula. After a five game losing stretch, the Chargers team effort dominated the Monterey Tournament for a clean sweep. 

12/01/22 vs Hartnell, 63-52

Hadi Essayli earned a double-double with 19 rebounds and 25 points in game one of the tournament. Cristian Butler and Grant Si each earned 5 assists and one steal for the Chargers. Slater Miller led the team in blocks and tied with Essayli in steals, 3. 

12/02/22 vs Diablo Valley, 58-55

Point Guard, Cristian Butler earned another 5 assists for the Chargers. Blake Ballard led the team in scoring with 13 points, while Essayli followed with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

12/03/22 vs Monterey Peninsula, 69-60

Off the bench, Freshman Allen Wright led the Chargers with 19 points and six rebounds. Grant Sii led the team with 4 assists and added 18 points to the win. Slater Miller got up to three blocks in the game, which put him at a total of seven blocks in the tournament. 

 

At the end of the tournament, Grant Sii was awarded All-Tournament and Slater Miller was awarded MVP of the Monterey Bay Classic.

 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will host their first game of the month on Tuesday, December 13th against Canyons College. Tip-off is set at 5PM.
