CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College men's basketball team (1-0) opened their season with a high scoring victory over Grossmont (0-1) on Thursday night, 97-81.
Sophomore Grant Sii (26 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists), Freshman Blake Ballard (33 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds), and Sophomore Hadi Essayli (15 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists) led the Chargers to their first win of the 2022-2023 season.
Grossmont ended the first half with a 7 point lead. Though, the Chargers did not back down as Essayli made the layup to tie the game, 48-48. Both teams continued trading baskets until the Chargers took control and pushed the lead in the last thirteen minutes of the game. The Griffins looked for a late comeback when they closed the trail to four points, 75-79. However, the Chargers pulled away with the home victory, 97-81.
UP NEXT: Men's basketball will return to action on Tuesday, November 8th at Southwestern College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
