Chargers Fall to Wolverines in SoCal Regional, 60-43

SAN BERNARDINO, CA – The Cypress College men's basketball team saw their season come to an end in the opening round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional on Wednesday night. The Chargers (16-13, No. 19 seed) fell to San Bernardino Valley College (20-9, No. 14 seed) 60-43 at the San Bernardino Gymnasium.

The Chargers looked strong out of the gate and played to their strength, defense, in the first half. Guard, Demetri Mariolis got the Cypress bench off its feet when he knocked down two key three pointers in the first half. Kamron Barnes was hungry on the glass pulling down 8 rebounds and leading the agressive Charger defense. The Chargers found their groove and held the halftime lead, 23-21.

As the second half started, San Bernardino saw their shots start to fall despite an amazing defensive effort by the Chargers' Jaylan Slaughter. The Wolverines began to pull away with 10 minutes to go in the second half when they led, 44-31. Cypress ramped up a full court press in an effort to slow down San Bernardino. The Chargers were only able to cut the defcit to 9 before the Wolverines ran away with the victory, 60-43.

The Chargers offense hindered them tonight, shooting a dismal 28% from the field, and 18% from the 3-point line, including a 0-for-8 stretch from three in the 2nd half. Cypress did not have a scorer reach double figures, as Kaden Headington led the way with 9 points off the bench. Kamron Barnes finished with 8 points along with his game high 12 rebounds.
