Sophomore men's basketball standout, Kamron Barnes, earned his first career Charger of the Week Award during Thursday's practice. Barnes is the first member of the men's basketball team to earn the award this season.
The sophmore guard helped lead the Chargers to the biggest upset in Cypress men's basketball history last week, when they beat #3 ranked Fullerton College. Barnes, rebounded the ball aggressively and came up big when the Chargers needed him most. With a 1:30 to go Barnes came soaring in to put back a missed layup and put the Chargers up by four. After two great defensive possessions, Barnes was the one to come up with the much needed defensive rebounds. He calmly went to the line and knocked down four free throws in a row to seal the victory, 57-50.
The Hesperia high school alum scored a game high 18 points vs. Santiago Canyon, and is shooting 61% from the field.
Men's basketball will return to action tonight, February 7th, where they will host Orange Coast. Tip-off will be at 5PM.
