Lister Accepts Scholarship From Life Pacific

By Wes McCurtis

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress College men's basketball standout Chez Lister has accepted a scholarship offer from Life Pacific College, where he will continue his basketball career and run cross country next season.

Life Pacific, located in San Dimas, CA, competes in the National Christian College Athletic Association's (NCCAA) Pacific Christian Athletic Conference. "It's close to home. Life Pacific offered me a double scholarship for basketball and cross country, and I get to stay close to my family," said Lister. "Cross country is something pretty new to me. I did it one year in high school and never thought I'd do it again, but one of the basketball assistants is the cross country coach. They gave me the opportunity to earn an even better scholarship, so I'll run miles for them."

Lister never started a game for the Chargers, but he impacted both ends of the floor for a back-to-back playoff team with his motor and athleticism. He averaged 7.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 assists per game during his sophomore season. "Moving to the next level I see myself bringing the same mentality I brought during my sophomore season at Cypress. Just be a spark plug on both ends and do things that don't show up in the stat sheet. The coaches think I'll be a good fit," said Lister.

The Junipero Serra High School alum had a huge jump in production from his freshman to sophomore year, especially on offense, as he saw a double-digit increase in three-point shooting percentage and free throw percentage.  "When I first got here as a freshman Coach Drew told me I was behind a couple of our other guys. He told me to stick with it and I just kept pushing. Then in my second year it was leaps and bounds. I came off the bench and was playing big minutes."

Lister, who maintained a 3.2 GPA at Cypress, plans to major in psychology or business with a minor in biblical studies while attending Life Pacific. He would like to pursue a career in coaching at the college or high school level.
