Chargers Fall to Gauchos on Sophomore Night, 65-42

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College men's basketball team (13-12, 5-5 OEC) fell to No. 2 Saddleback College (23-3, 9-1 OEC) at home on Friday night, 65-42.

Pascal Evans led the way for the Chargers with 10 points. Brennon Palmer added 5 points while grabbing a game-high 7 rebounds.

Colin Ferrier scored a game-high 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting for the Gauchos.

The Chargers scored the first points of the game before the Gauchos quickly answered with a 3-pointer to take a lead they would maintain the rest of the way. Saddleback held a 26-16 lead with under 2 minutes left in the half. However, the Chargers closed the half on a 5-0 run, capped off by a deep three-pointer from Jordan Rohan. The Chargers entered the break with momentum on their side, trailing 26-21.

Despite a positive end to the half, the Chargers came out flat as Saddleback took a commanding 20-point lead that they never relinquished. Cypress managed to get within 17 points at 58-41, but Saddleback closed the game on a 7-1 run as they ran away with a 23-point win.

Men's basketball will return to action next week when they travel to take on Riverside College on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 5:00 p.m.
