Chargers Handle Pirates on the Road, 82-73

COSTA MESA, CA –The Cypress College men's basketball team (9-8, 1-1 OEC) shot the lights out in an 82-73 road victory over Orange Coast College (7-11, 0-3 OEC) on Wednesday night.

David Murrell led the way for the Chargers with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting. O'Shae Williams finished with 17 points and 6 assists. Jordan Rohan added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Cypress had no answer for the Pirates' Nate Harding, who finished with a game-high 26 points. Harding went a blistering 8-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-6 from distance.

The final score showed a closer game than it actually was as the Chargers were in control from start to finish. Cypress jumped out to an early 13-2 lead in the first half and held a 24 point lead with 7 minutes remaining in the game. Cypress seemingly got to the rim at will, leading to a season-high 62.2% shooting and season-high 36 foul shots.

Missed free throws and a late offensive surge from the Pirates, including a three-pointer from Harding at the final buzzer, eventually made it only a 9 point game in the end.

Men's basketball will return to action in their OEC home opener on Friday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. against the Irvine Valley Lasers.
