Men's Basketball Set for Orange Empire Conference Play

The Cypress College men's basketball captured the consolation champoinship in the San Diego Mesa tournament over the Holidays and opened up conference play on the road against Fullerton College.

The Chargers hosted Long Beach City College on December 21st and came away with a 76-63 victory. Three Chargers finished in double figures as Pascal Evans led the way with 20 points and 9 rebounds. O'Shae Williams added 18 points with 7 assists and David Murrell contributed 17 points including 3 three-pointers.

Next up for the men was the San Diego Mesa tournament. The Chargers first opponent was Cuyamaca, who they defeated 80-62 two weeks prior to the tournament. However, this time the Chargers came up short, falling to the Coyotes 69-75 despite an early 18-point lead. Williams led the Chargers with 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jordan Rohan and Chez Lister contributed 12 points and 13 points respectively.

Following the opening round loss, Cypress bounced back with a 70-52 win over Grossmont College. Williams again led the Chargers with 18 points, 9 assists and 4 rebounds. Rohan added 14 points including 4 three-pointers. Evans and Murrell also finished in double figures with 12 points and 10 points respectively.

In the Consolation Championship game Cypress took down tournament host San Diego Mesa 52-38. Rohan led the way for the Chargers with 13 points including 3 three pointers and 6 rebounds. Lister added 13 points and a team leading 8 rebounds. Williams added 11 points and 3 assists.

Following the tournament the Chargers opened up conference play on Jan. 4 at Fullerton College. The Chargers fell to the No. 13 Hornets 75-64. The Chargers were able to get within 7 points with 1:15 to go but were unable to get over the hump. Williams led the Chargers with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Murrell added 15 points and 4 assists. Rohan added 15 points including 3 three-pointers.

Men's basketball is set to resume conference play tonight on the road against Orange Coast College before their OEC home opener on Friday, Jan. 11. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 PM.
