Men’s Basketball Loses Close One at Long Beach City, 69-66

Long Beach – The Cypress men's basketball team (0-3) dropped a close game on the road Wednesday evening, falling to Long Beach City (2-2) 69-66.

 

Three Chargers scored in double-digits with Jeremy Wright leading the way with a season-high 19. Nolan Kelly (12) and Austin Payne (11) also tallied season-highs in scoring, while Payne also led the team in rebounds with a season-high of six.

 

As a team, the Chargers out-rebounded Long Beach 48-28. They also posted season-high three-point (36%, 9-of-25) and free throw (78%, 21-of-27) percentages in the game.

 

With the game tied at 66, LBCC's Brandon Staton made a lay-up and subsequent free throw to give the Vikings a 69-66 lead with seven seconds to play. A three- point attempt by Wright was blocked and then an LBCC steal would seal the victory.

 

The Chargers next play on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Chaffey College (7:00 pm).
