New Don Johnson Court Reveals NBA/NCAA Feel

New Don Johnson Court Reveals NBA/NCAA Feel

CYPRESS, Calif.  --- Cypress College Athletics is proud to present its new and improved gym floor for the 2014-15 year.  After decades of having the same gym floor, Cypress College Athletics has re-launched its gym floor branding identity and image to the most modern at any level.

According to the Dean of Physical Education and Athletics, Dr. Rick Rams, the floors represent a proud and impressive upgrade for the college.  "We researched models to ensure that our gym would create an incredible impression for our guests and most importantly, a distinct Division I feel for those who compete on it."

The two-tone court features the innovative Cypress Chargers logo in the center of the court along with a handful of other creative concepts to enhance the experience for fans and Cypress College student-athletes.  Future Charger Athletic Volleyball and Basketball media broadcasts will feature a floor with significant appeal to viewers at home or online.

The two-tone multi-colored floor is similar to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls and Phoenix Suns courts from the National Basketball Association.

The new Charger court resembles the recently renovated "Harry A. Gampel Pavilion" court, which happens to be the home of the 2013-14 Men's Division I Basketball Champions University of Connecticut Huskies.
The new "Orange Empire Conference" logo is also placed inside the three-point line on both sides of the court to represent the highly competitive conference that Cypress competes in.

"Don Johnson Court" stretches across both sidelines of the floor as well in the new Cypress Chargers Athletic Department font, along with the legendary coach's signature.

The renowned coach led the Cypress College Men's Basketball program to two state titles ('77,'80) and seven conference championships during his eminent coaching career at Cypress College.  As of 2013, Coach Johnson was inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame and remains the winningest coach in California Community College men's basketball history.

The Charger Athletic department also purchased two back-lit 12-foot scorers tables to go along with the newly renovated gym floor.

Photos of the new court have been uploaded to our athletic departments photo gallery and can also be viewed through our Cypress Chargers social media sites.
