Chargers Drop Series to Bobcats

CYPRESS, CA- Charger baseball (23-10, 9-6 OEC) lost the series finale to the Saddleback Bobcats (24-9, 10-5 OEC) on Friday afternoon, 2-16.

Cypress and Saddleback met for the rubber match in the three-game series at Cypress College. The Chargers took the first matchup on Tuesday 10-7 but lost at Saddleback 3-11 on Thursday. 

In the first frame, a two-out RBI double put Saddleback up early by a run. An inning later, the Bobcats extended their lead to 4-0. With bases loaded, a fielder's choice run and two-RBI single tallied three in the inning for the visiting team. 

After two quiet frames, Saddleback created additional damage with bags full yet again. A base hit scored two that grew the lead to 6-0. Cypress suffered a ten run inning from the Bobcats bats and trailed 14-0 at the middle of the fifth. 

In the bottom half of the inning, the Chargers put two runs on the board. Dean Toigo smashed a line drive home run over the right field wall to make it 2-14. However, Saddleback got the two runs back in the eighth from two run scoring singles. Cypress' offense was quiet and the team was soundly defeated, 2-16. 

Toigo had the only multi-hit game for the Chargers as he went 2-3, with two RBIs and a run from his two-run homer. Jack Burke, Luke Honikel and Cade Liefer all got one hit towards the teams five total. Connor Wylde suffered the loss with his two innings pitched. Andrew Dusablon, Logan Groff, Jack Pavlovsky and Cole Wentz came in for relief for Cypress. The Chargers won the first game against the Bobcats but lost the final two matchups and the series. 

UP NEXT: Cypress will stay home to begin a three-game series with Santa Ana on Tuesday, April 18th. First pitch will be at 2pm.
