Seven Chargers Earn OEC All-Conference Honors

CYPRESS, CA- The Orange Empire Conference has released the 2021 All-Conference baseball teams. Coby Morales, Dalton Sloniger, Andrew Sojka, and Brenden Harris earned First-teams honors while Julian Aguiar, Brett Garcia, and Ricky Lane were selected to the Second-team. 

The Chargers were well represented on the First-Team All-OEC roster with four Cypress athletes securing a spot. Sophomore, Andrew Sojka, was a threat with his bat all season long batting lead-off for Cypress. Sojka led the team in RBI's (24), Runs (25), Doubles (8), HR's (4), and SLG% (.602). The center fielder flashed his glove on the defensive end making highlight catches all season on his way to a .943 fielding percentage. Coby Morales was one of three Cypress freshmen selected after finishing fourth in the OEC with 24 RBI's. Morales shared the team lead with four home runs, led the Chargers in walks with 14, and batted .345. The first baseman doubled seven times during his 2021 campaign and recorded 29 hits. Dalton Sloniger was the most consistent bat in the Charger lineup as he hit safely in 17 of 21 games. Sloniger was second in the OEC with a batting average of .400 which included five doubles, a triple, and two home runs. As a freshman, Dalton manned the hot corner on defense and batted in the middle of the lineup for Cypress. Designated Hitter, Brenden Harris, batted .316 with 13 RBI's and scored 12 runs. The New York native hit three home runs and had a slugging percentage of (.500). Harris was the full-time designated hitter for the Chargers, batting in the middle of the lineup. 

 

The Chargers were represented by three players on the All-OEC Second-Team including two pitchers, Julian Aguiar and Brett Garcia, along with outfielder Ricky Lane. Julian Aguiar is a right-handed pitcher who started six games for the Chargers and struck out 37 batters. The El Camino transfer posted a 4.38 ERA in 37 innings pitched allowing 18 earned runs on the season. Aguiar is committed to the University of Tennessee where he will continue to pitch for the Volunteers. Brett Garcia had a 3-3 record with the Chargers, starting seven games. Garcia had a 4.41 ERA with a team-leading 39 strikeouts. Garcia averaged 10.74 strikeouts per nine innings over 32.2 innings pitched. Outfielder Ricky Lane led the OEC with a .418 batting average and finished 4th in the OEC with six stolen bases. Ricky had a .544 slugging percentage and .432 on-base percentage. Lane started 22 games and had 33 hits, including three doubles, two triples, and one home run.
