Cypress Baseball Pushes to 5-0, Defeats Mt. SAC 10-2

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress College baseball team (5-0, 3-0 OEC) opened up a four game series versus the Mount San Antonio Mounties (2-3) on Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers exploded for 10 runs and took down the Mounties, 10-2. 

Ryan Maciel (3 for 3) had the hottest bat in the lineup for the Chargers knocking in two runs and notching two doubles. Coby Morales (3 for 4) played first base and hit the lone homerun of the game.  Pu'ukani De Sa (1 for 3) got the start at second base and knocked in two RBI's on the day. Brett Garcia (5.0 IP) got the start on the mound for Cypress striking out eight and only giving up two hits in his second start of the season. 

The Chargers got their energy in the top of the second when center fielder, Andrew Sojka, made a diving play to rob Mt. SAC of extra bases. In the bottom half of the inning Ryan Maciel doubled to the left field wall scoring Dalton Sloniger and pushing the Cypress lead to 2-0. Coby Morales hit a monster homerun over the right field scoreboard in the bottom of the third to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead. Pitcher, Brett Garcia, battled all day out of jams and was able to leave his outing giving up zero runs through five innings. Cypress started their scoring run in the bottom half of the sixth when Ricky Lane beat out an infield single to the shortstop. Coby Morales doubled to left field and Mario Tostado was hit by the next pitch. The Chargers had the bases loaded for Pu'ukani De Sa who doubled to right field scoring two runs. Ryan Maciel was up next to do more damage as he doubled on a well hit ball to center field. Cypress would go on to score seven runs on seven hits in the inning. Relievers, Jeremy Haugh and Isaiah Ayala, each struck out one batter over one inning pitched in relief. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will play game two of the four game series on Thursday, April 22nd, when they travel to Mount San Antonio. First pitch will be at 2pm!
