Chargers Baseball Ranked #1 in 2021 Southern California Preseason Poll

Cypress, CA- The California Community College Coaches Association released their preseason rankings for the 2021 season. The Cypress Chargers were voted into the top spot of twenty teams in Southern California. The Chargers were one of six Orange Empire Conference teams to make the list.

Cypress is coming off a successful shortened season in 2020 where they posted a (17-3-1) record. The season ended abruptly on March 11th with a loss to Saddleback, 8-4. Prior to the final game of the season, the Chargers had not lost a game in over a month going 13-0-1 in that span.

The 2020 season was highlighted by the Chargers conference opening series versus the Fullerton Hornets. Cypress outscored Fullerton, 42-6, in the first and only OEC three game series of the season. Coach Anthony Hutting earned his 100th career victory in the third game of series where the Chargers swept the Hornets in dominant fashion, 12-1.

The Cypress baseball team and all spring sport student athletes were given their year of eligibility back by the CCCAA due to complications of the COVID-19 pandemic. After the shortened season, eight Chargers from the 2020 roster committed to continue their education and baseball career at the next level.

Standout freshman from last season, David Canales, Sebastian Diaz, Andrew Sojka, Josh Landry and Mario Tostado will maintain their freshman eligibility and look to lead the Chargers to a successful 2021 season.
