9 Cypress Baseball Players Transfer to Four-Year Universities; 7 to NCAA Division I Schools

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress College baseball program has seen over 360 student-athletes move on to play at four-year universities in its storied history. In the face of a shortened season the Chargers are continuing the tradition of moving players on to the next level under fourth year Head Coach Anthony Hutting.
Cypress is sending 9 members of the baseball team on to play at four-year schools next season, 7 of which will play for NCAA Division I programs.

 

Hayden WintersUniversity of Houston 

 

Hayden Winters is a sophomore who manned first base and batted .371 with 19 RBI's in 17 games played. In his Freshman season, Winters was selected to the ALL-OEC second team. He recorded 23 RBI's with a .339 batting average. Winters was on pace for a breakout sophomore season racking up 8 RBI's in his final 5 games of the 2020 season.  

 

Dawson Gilbert, Fresno Pacific University

Dawson Gilbert was a two year starter for the Chargers where he played exceptional defense across the diamond. Gilbert was the swiss army knife for Cypress and played virtually every postion on the field. Gilbert batted .258 with 4 RBI's in the 2020 season. 

 

Carson Letterman, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

 

Carson Letterman played third base and batted in the two hole for the Chargers. Letterman had an extremely successful Sophomore season batting .378 with a .516 on base percentage. Letterman consistently got on base to give the Cypress power hitters RBI opportunities. Carson has 28 hits in 21 games to go along with 15 walks. Even with the shortened season, Letterman improved in every single statistical category. 

 

Spencer Serven, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

 

Spencer Serven is a freshman from Huntington Beach, CA. He played in 18 games at Cypress batting .340 with 12 RBI's and 18 runs scored. Serven got off to a hot start early in his career and made multiple electric plays for Cypress in center field. Serven and Letterman will provide a strong one-two punch at the next level for Rio Grande Valley.

 

Hayden Schott, Columbia University

Hayden Schott was also a Freshman for Cypress who played 18 games for the Chargers. Schott was another great outfielder who batted .317 with 17 RBI's. Schott led his team in the classroom earning a 4.0 GPA, leading him to a prestigous Ivy League University. 

 

Rafael Flores, California State University Northridge

 

Rafael Flores was the man behind the plate for Cypress in 2020. After playing 28 games in Freshman season, Flores posted identical numbers in the 21 games he played in 2020. As a freshman, Flores batted .339 with 19 hits, 14 RBI's, and a .457 on base percentage. Flores followed up his 2019 campaign with a .345 average, 19 hits, 14 RBI's, and a .456 on base percentage. 

 

Bobby Silvis, California State University Northridge

 

 Bobby Silvis was the leadoff batter for the Chargers and immensely improved in his Sophomore season. Silvis was top 3 batter in the OEC with a .451 average, .478 on base percentage, and a .634 slugging percentage. Bobby had an incredible 37 hits in 21 games for the Chargers in 2020. Bobby Silvis was also a Charger of the Week award receipient for his performance against College of the Canyons. 

Isaiah GonzalesWhittier College

 

Isaiah Gonzales was a third year Sophomore for the Chargers where he made 5 appearances out of the bullpen. Gonzalez is a strike out pitcher who did not surrender a run in 2020. He gave up 2 hits and struck out 10 batters in 9.1 innings of work. 

 

Trevor JonesWestern Carolina University 

 

Trevor "Red" Jones was two year starter for Cypress. He played first base and designated hitter for the Chargers batting .299 in his sophomore season. Jones knocked in 13 runs and had a .405 on base percentage in 2020.
