Chargers Put Up Double Digits, Take Down Fullerton 14-3

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress College baseball team opened up OEC play this week with a three game series against Fullerton College. The Chargers scored 16 runs in their first match up Tuesday and followed with a 14 run performance in today's 14-3 victory.

The Chargers have continued their hot start from non-conference play right into their first OEC matchup. Cypress traveled to Fullerton on Tuesday and brought home a dominant 16-2 victory. The homeruns (3) came at ease for Cypress as their bats did the damage.

The story was very similar on Thursday when the Chargers exploded for 6 runs in the 1st inning. The current OEC batting leader, Mario Tostado, gave the Chargers their first run of the game with a single to center field. After Andrew Sojka reached base on an error the bags were loaded for first baseman Trevor Jones. Jones split the gap and knocked in three runs with the 1st inning double. The Chargers would go on to bat around in the 1st inning as Bobby Silvis would tack on 2 more runs with a first pitch swinging 2 RBI double.

After a quiet 2nd inning the Chargers got back on the board in the third with another 6 run inning. A barrage of singles would do the damage for Cypress, as they tallied 5 hits in the bottom half of the third. The Chargers had a comfortable 12-2 lead after the third inning when they turned to the bullpen to close out the last two thirds of the game. Isaiah Gonzales had his best outing of the season out of the pen as he through 3.2 innings of no hit baseball. Carson Frazier and Sammy Garcia followed the performance finishing out the 8th and 9th inning while not allowing a Fullerton player to reach base.

UP NEXT: Cypress will close out the three game series with the Hornets at Fullerton on Saturday. First pitch will be at 12:00PM.
