No. 5 Chargers Extend Win Streak to Eight with Victory Over LA Pierce, 6-1

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College baseball team (9-1) picked up its eighth consecutive win on Monday afternoon against the visiting LA Pierce Brahmas (4-4), 6-1. The Chargers entered the contest still holding the No. 5 ranking in Southern California.

Sophomore Eric Chavarria (W, 3-0) earned his third victory of the season on the mound, tossing 6 shutout innings while allowing only 2 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts. LA Pierce's Daniel Tobias received the loss after giving up 5 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings of work.

The Chargers got going early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom of the first. Jesse Lopez (3-for-4, RBI) got things started with an RBI single, scoring Isaiah Stewart (1-for-5). Lopez would advance to second on the throw to home plate and get all the way to third on a throwing error. Eric Bigani (1-for-4, RBI) followed that up with an RBI single to centerfield, giving the Chargers a 2-0 lead.

Cypress added another run in the third, before piling on two additional runs in the sixth to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

LA Pierce answered with a Nolan Bodeau (1-for-2, RBI) solo home run to left field in the eighth. However, the Chargers would respond with a run of their own on a Bobby Silvis (1-for-2, 2RBI) sacrifice fly.

Colton Bulger would close out the game on the mound, securing the win for Cypress, 6-1.

The Chargers will return to action at home on Thursday against Allan Hancock College at 2:00pm.
