Cypress Baseball Keeps on Rolling in Win Over Hancock, 16-3

CYPRESS, CA – The No. 3 Chargers continued their recent stretch of dominant performances with a 16-3 victory over visiting Allan Hancock College on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore pitcher Riley Ohl (W, 5-0) earned his CCCAA leading fifth win on the mound, in as many starts, so far this season. Ohl struck out a season-high 10 batters, while allowing just one run on two hits in 5.0 innings. Hancocks' Nic Cardinal received the loss after allowing nine runs, six earned, on seven hits in 4.0 innings of work.

The Chargers offense was overwhelming, as they have been so far this season. Cypress, who has played the same amount of games as most teams in the state, currently leads the CCCAA with 162 hits. The team also ranks second in the CCCAA with 119 RBI, 135 runs scored, and a .331 AVG.

Sophomore C/1B Dominic Campeau has been a key contributor to the Cypress offense this season. Campeau is currently the CCCAA leader with 26 RBI and he is batting a remarkable .531 with 15 RBI over the Chargers' seven game stretch. "Our pitching staff is really doing the job," said Campeau."They're closing the door on teams and that has really allowed us to relax on offense. We like to keep it simple and not try to do too much out there." The El Modena High School alumnus went 5-for-5 with 8 RBI, including a grand slam, on Thursday against Hancock. "We're just trying to keep it rolling into conference. This team hasn't really looked at the win streak too much. We just worry about what we can control and how we carry ourselves."

The Chargers will resume non-conference action in a rematch with Allan Hancock on Saturday. First pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
