No. 3 Baseball Defeats No. 5 Long Beach City for Sixth Straight Win

CYPRESS, CA – The Chargers have been rolling as of late, and that continued during Tuesday's home game against the Long Beach City College Vikings. Cypress, who entered the contest ranked No. 3 in Southern California, picked up their sixth consecutive win during the long home stand over the fifth ranked Vikings, 11-4.

Sophomore pitcher Jake Mahood (W, 1-1) got the start and the win for Cypress. Mahood went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out eight batters in the process. Long Beach's Joshua Rios (L, 1-3) received the start and the loss. Rios allowed seven runs on nine hits.

Sophomores Pierson Loska (2-for-4, 2RBI) and Jack Gardner (2-for-3, RBI) led the Chargers' 11-run offensive attack.

Both team's traded runs through the first four innings before the Chargers, leading 4-3, erupted for three runs in the fifth and another three runs in the sixth to take a commanding 10-3 lead.

Loska got things started in the fifth with an RBI double to the center field wall, scoring Gardner, who reached on a single. Elias Ledesma (1-for-2, RBI) followed up with a hard hit RBI single to left field, before Aaron Simpson (1-for-3, 3RBI) slapped an RBI groundout to extend the lead.

Gardner began the sixth inning rally with an RBI single to left field. Aaron Lizarraga (1-for-3, RBI) drilled an RBI single to center, followed by a sacrifice fly from Aaron Halpert (1-for-3, 2RBI).

The Chargers have four games remaining, all on their home field, before opening Orange Empire Conference play. Cypress will take on Allan Hancock College in their next game on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
