Cypress Offense Powers Chargers Past Lancers, 12-4

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College baseball team (5-3) picked up a big win over the Pasadena City College Lancers (4-4) at home on Friday afternoon, 12-4. The Chargers entered the matchup ranked No. 3 in Southern California, while the Lancers held the No. 14 spot in the SoCal rankings.

Sophomore right-hander Riley Ohl (W, 3-0) remains unbeaten in three starts this season. Ohl gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, while racking up 6 strikeouts in 6.0 innings on the mound. Pasadena's Jesus Zarazua (L, 0-1) received the loss in his first start this season. Zarazua allowed 7 runs on 6 hits in 1.2 innings of work.

Sophomore outfielder Aaron Lizarraga (2-for-4, HR) and sophomore catcher Dominic Campeau (3-for-5, 3RBI) powered the Cypress offense.

The Chargers got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first. Jesse Lopez (3-for-3, RBI) got things started with a single to center field before freshman Jack Gardner (1-for-4, 4RBI) sent a 3-0 pitch over the outfield wall for his first home run of the season to take a 2-0 lead.

Cypress took control of the game with a 5-run rally in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a 3-run homer from Lizarraga, to take a 7-0 lead. The Lancers were able to answer with 4 runs in the fourth, but Cypress put the game away with 2 more runs at the bottom of the inning, followed by a 3-run fifth inning.

Cypress baseball will return to action at home on Tuesday against College of the Desert at 2:00 p.m.
