The Cypress College baseball team (29-13, 11-10 OEC) will travel to El Cajon, CA to take on the No. 2-seeded Grossmont College Griffins (31-7-1, 22-2 PCAC) in a best-of-three CCCAA Southern California Super Regional series this Friday through Sunday.

The No. 11 Chargers are coming off a dominant performance against No. 6 Santa Barbara City College in the Southern California Regional last weekend. Cypress traveled to Santa Barbara and swept the Vaqueros, taking the first game 9-0 and the second game 6-1.

Orange Empire Conference Pitcher of the Year Andrew Quezada (9-1) brought his stellar play into the postseason, as he shutout the Vaqueros in game 1. Quezada allowed just 5 hits with 4 strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Sophomore Henry Martinez (5-3) got the start and the win in game 2, allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 8 strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Sophomore first baseman Garrett Calvert went 4-for-8 with 2 runs and 2 RBI to lead the Chargers offense.

The back-to-back PCAC champions, Grossmont Griffins, enter the series having swept No. 18 seed Irvine Valley College in the SoCal Regional Round.  The Griffins have put up huge offensive numbers all season, led by Cabot Van Til. Van Til went 5-for-7 with 3 RBI and 5 runs in 2 games against the Lasers.

The Chargers are 14-1 all-time against Grossmont, including two wins over the Griffins in last season's Southern California Sectionals, punching their ticket to the 2016 CCCAA Final Four.

Game 1 is scheduled for Friday, May 12 at 2:00pm followed by game 2 on Saturday at 11:00am. If necessary, game 3 will be played on Sunday at 11:00am. Tickets to the CCCAA postseason event are $12 for general admission and $8 for faculty, staff, students, seniors, and children.
