CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College baseball team (17-8, 4-5 OEC) fell 1-0 to Orange Coast College (21-3, 8-1) in a tight pitcher's duel at home on Friday afternoon. The Chargers entered the game ranked No. 5 in Southern California, while the Pirates entered the day ranked No. 1.

Henry Martinez (2-3) pitched well, but received the loss after allowing 1 unearned run on 6 hits over 8.1 innings pitched while striking out 9. Brandon Alamo (2-for-4) led the Chargers offense.

McKinley LeFore (6-4) picked up the victory for the Pirates as he threw a complete game shutout while striking out 8 and allowing just 4 hits.

The Pirates scored the only run of the game in the third inning on an error and held off the Chargers offense the rest of the way to win 1-0. The Chargers best opportunity to score came in the bottom of the eighth inning as Cypress loaded the bases with 2 outs, but a groundout ended the threat.

Cypress baseball will return to action against Golden West College at home on Tuesday, March 28 at 2:00 PM.
