No. 4 Chargers Shutout Bulldogs, 3-0

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College baseball team (11-2) shutout Allan Hancock College (4-7) by the score of 3-0 at home on Thursday afternoon. The Chargers entered the game ranked No. 4 in Southern California.

Henry Martinez (2-1) picked up his second victory of the season in his third start for the Chargers as he shutout the Bulldogs over 6 innings while allowing just 4 hits and striking out 5. Pierson Loska (1-for-1, 2 RBI) and Kaleb Sorenson (1-for-3, RBI) led the Chargers offense.

Matt Hamon (0-1) received the loss for the Bulldogs, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits over 6 innings in his first start of the season.

The Chargers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after Sorenson ripped a double down the left field line to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. The Chargers struck for two more runs in the sixth inning. Matt Schmidt (1-for-2) and Logan Swofford (1-for-4) both singled to start the inning. Both runners moved up a base on a sac bunt and then Loska drove them in on a base hit to left to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead and the victory.

Cypress baseball will return to action at home on Saturday, Feb. 25 as they take on Allan Hancock at 12:00 p.m.
