The 2016 Cypress College baseball team, whose season ended in the State Championship Semi-Final, will mostly be remembered for their outstanding on field performances. However, the Charger's also got the job done in the classroom. Last year's team boasted a 3.17 team GPA and was recently selected as the California Community College Athletic Association's Scholar Team recipient. This award emphasizes the academic achievements of the team.
"The 2016 team epitomized what it means to be a student athlete. Their dedication to excelling in the classroom was evident on a daily basis," said Coach Anthony Hutting. "Not only were they committed to being successful on the field, which resulted in a Final Four appearance, more importantly the team strived for excellence as students. I am very proud of them."
The Chargers' accomplishment will be acknowledged at the Celebration of Student Athletes Awards Luncheon at the CCCAA Convention on Wednesday, March 29 at the Hilton Concord.
