El Camino Ends Ten Game Win Streak

Cypress, CA – The Cypress College baseball team (10-2) saw their 10 game win streak come to an end after a 2-0 loss to El Camino (9-4) on Tuesday afternoon.

Nick Reeser led the Chargers struggling offense with two hits and Brandon Gonzalez added a double. Henry Martinez (2-1) received the loss for the Chargers after allowing one run, two hits, and two walks in 1/3 inning at the mound.

El Camino pitcher Cassius Hamm (3-1) went the full nine innings for the Warriors. Hamm allowed only six hits and two walks while collecting four strikeouts on his way to a shutout. Connor Underwood led the Warriors with three hits in four at bats.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning where the Warriors posted the only two runs of the game. El Camino began the inning with a leadoff single to center filed from Jacob Carr followed by a Jonathon Pasilas walk. Kyle Henmi moved Carr and Pasilas to second and third after a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt. With two on and one out Cypress decided to intentionally walk Zack Ferreira and load the bases in the hopes of forcing a double-play. However, Brady Dorn hit an RBI single to left field followed by a Jake Sahagian sacrifice fly to give El Camino a two run lead.

Cypress was unable to answer and was shutout for the first time this season. The Chargers will begin their first Orange Empire Conference series of the season on the road against Orange Coast College on Saturday, March 5 @ 12:00 pm.
