Baseball Defeats Ventura 4-3 in Extra Innings

Cypress- The Cypress Chargers baseball team (2-0) remained undefeated after having to go extra innings versus Ventura (0-2) on Friday afternoon, eventually winning 4-3 in 11 innings.

An RBI single by Austin Case brought in Joe Vanmarter from second base to give the Chargers an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jaret Vermillon led Cypress from the mound with six strong innings, allowing only four hits and two earned runs. Vermillon was able to get the Chargers out of a jam in the third inning with the bases loaded, saving what could have been a huge momentum shift in the game.

Ventura was able to earn a run in the ninth inning, which took the game into extra innings. At the bottom of the 11th, Grant Mayeau batted in the game winning run after an Aaron Case double.

The Chargers will continue their home stand on Saturday, Jan. 31st, in a rematch with Ventura College. First pitch on Saturday is at 12:00 pm.
