Barnes making an impact in Houston

Houston, TX - Going into his second season in Houston, Brandon Barnes has been starting the last several games for the Astros in Right Field. He bats .361/.441/.500 after 30 at bats. He also hit 1 HR, scored 5 runs and 2 stolen bases. In 2012 when he got the call, Barnes contributed .204/.250/.265 batting 98 times.

The Anaheim native played football and baseball at Katella High School. He came to Cypress and was drafted in the 6th round in 2005. After spending several years in the minors, Barnes, 26, got the call in the 2012 season. The Astros moved from the NL Central to the AL West in 2013. With the lowest payroll of $26M in the Major League, the Astros were not expected to make a lot of noise, however they are tied for fourth and in their recent visit to Anaheim, had beaten the Angels in the opening game and came close the next two.
