Women's Beach Volleyball Sweeps Fullerton and Grossmont 5-0

LONG BEACH, CA- The Cypress College women's beach volleyball team hosted their first OEC match of the year Friday versus Fullerton and faced defending State Champion Grossmont. The Chargers won both matches by a commanding score of 5-0.

Women's Volleyball kicked the OEC season off by facing the Fullerton Hornets at Granada Beach Courts in Long Beach. The Chargers made a shift in their starting pairs as Alondra Lamas and Danielle Gomez started as one's for Cypress. The move paid dividends as they took the match in three sets in a back and forth battle. Mary Hicks and Brittany Zavala moved down to the two's matchup and dominated their victory in two sets. Rachel Burney and Alexis Flores showed great team chemistry in the three slot as they took down the Hornets, 21-13 and 21-11. The final two pairs (Ashley Corona/Ali Carey-Oliver) and (Amanda Risch/Lauren Adamo) each battled through their matchup and won in three sets. 

The Chargers next matchup was against the defending State Champion Grossmont Griffins. Cypress shifted their pairs again as Miranda Telles substituted in the one slot along with Brittany Zavala to take the first set 22-20. The new pair fought tough, but lost the second set 20-22. Zavala and Telles built chemistry through out the match a took home the victory in the third set, 15-9. Pairs two, three, and four won by a comfortbale margin as they each won their match in two sets. Amanda Risch and Lauren Adamo finished off the Friday sweep with a 15-10 victory in the final set of the day. 

UP NEXT: The Charger's next match will be at Irvine Valley on March 13. Cypress will battle Irvine Valley and Saddleback as they ramp up OEC play!
