Mounties shutout Cypress College, 5-0

(Walnut) – By John M. Sherrard – Freshman pitcher Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings (Chino HS) ran her consecutive scoreless streak to a season-high 22 innings and freshman catcher Taylor Jaurique went 4 for 4 in a 5-0 win over CCCFCA top-ranked Cypress College in a nonconference game at Mt. SAC Thursday afternoon.

Kennedy-Cummings won her tenth game of the season (9th complete game) and team-leading fifth shutout.

Meanwhile, Jaurique hit two run-scoring singles and scored a run in a perfect day at the plate. Her season average jumped up to a .486 average and has 18 hits, fourth on the squad.

Cypress (16-2), which has won eight CCCAA state titles, was shutout for the first time this season in 18 games.

Highlighting the 10-hit attack was freshman second baseman Kayla Sok (Glendora HS), hitting her fourth home run of the season for Mt. SAC (20-2), while freshman right fielder Alyssa Rasso (Corona HS) had a triple and an RBI.

Jaurique started the scoring with a run-scoring single in the third inning, scoring Sok (1 for2, 2 runs scored, RBI).

Mt. SAC added three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by solo homer and Rasso's three-bagger, scoring Jaurique.
