The Long Beach City College women's tennis team is still in search of its first win of the season as the Vikings suffered a 6-3 non-conference defeat at nearby Cypress College on Wednesday.

Sophomore Jasmine Hyacinth (Mayfair HS) was a winner at No. 4 singles as she defeated Cypress' Vi Nguyen 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Long Beach also earned wins by default at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Hyacinth and freshman Maria Gonzalez (Norwalk HS) nearly pulled off a victory at No. 2 doubles, but were edged 8-5 by the Chargers' duo of Shamine Singh and Mallika Tith. Gonzalez also played Singh tough at No. 3 singles, but lost by scores of 7-5, 6-4.

Long Beach returns to action next Wednesday (Feb. 10) at 3 p.m. when the Vikings host Bakersfield College in a non-conference match.
