BASEBALL: HORNETS WIN SERIES OVER CYPRESS

The Hornets fought through the wet weather on Saturday pulling off an 8-3 conference-win at Cypress College taking the three-game season series.

The win now gives FC an overall record of 21-6 and a conference record of 9-3, while the Charger loss lands them at 19-8 overall and 7-5 in conference.

Shane Carrier blasted his ninth home run of the season to get it started in the fourth inning. Later in the inning, with two on, Joey Parente ripped a 2-RBI single to left giving Fullerton a 3-0 lead.

The Chargers answered in the bottom of the fourth with a run from Nick Reeser on an RBI groundout by Bo Coolen. Reilly's solo homerun in the fifth cut Fullerton's to one (3-2).

The Hornets went on to capitalize on 2 Cypress errors and took advantage of some solid hitting to extend their lead after a 5 run rally in the seventh.

The Chargers managed to cut the deficit to five and loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but FC pitcher Gilbert Sanchez closed it out securing the Hornet win.

David Miranda led the way for the Hornets going 3-5 at the plate with 2 doubles and an RBI single.

Starting pitcher Louis Corral locked down his third win of the season going a strong 7.2 innings. He gave up 6 hits, 2 earned runs, and had 2 strikeouts.

Up Next: The Hornets (21-6, 9-3) will hit the road against Riverside City College this Tuesday, April 12th. Game time is at 2:00 pm.
