BASEBALL: A FANTASTIC SEASON ENDS IN THE SUPER REGIONALS

The #17 Hornets ended another fantastic season on Sunday after falling to #4 Cypress College in the Super Regionals two games to one.

The best-of-three series began on Friday with the Hornets winning game one in a 5-0 shutout. FC pitcher Randall Ortiz threw a complete game earning his ninth win of the year. Offensively, the Hornets were clicking as they accumulated 14 hits on the day.

In game two on Saturday, Fullerton lost 11-4 to the Chargers after leaving 7 runners on base. FC had 13 hits, but had a hard time converting most of them into runs. Shane Carrier blasted a three-run shot in the eighth inning for his 12th homerun on the season (tied for 3rd in state).

In the final and deciding game on Sunday, the Hornets and Chargers battled it out for ten innings with Cypress winning the series 5-4 in dramatic walk-off fashion.

Heading into the bottom of the tenth, the Hornets led the game 4-3. Cypress managed to load the bases with no outs. Elijah Skipps came up to bat smacking a single to right field scoring Austin Case from third. A high throw came sailing in from right field over the catcher Andrew Piraino's head giving Brandon Gonzalez the opportunity to score the winning run.

The season may be over for the Hornets, but many will go on to do great things for other institutions still representing Fullerton College. This team is loaded with talented players who are hard-working, respectful, and loyal. They will no doubt make the Hornet faithful very proud.

Always remember... Once a Hornet, always a Hornet!
