BASEBALL: HORNETS STILL HAVE SOME FIGHT LEFT

The Hornets took one on the chin on Tuesday losing to Cypress College 12-1 but dished it right back on Thursday beating the Chargers at home 17-8.

With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the third, Cypress took advantage on loaded bases scoring five runs. Pierson Loska drew a walk that brought Chase Sebby home, Angel Ortiz singled to center scoring Loska, Elias Ledesma hit a single to center Garrett Calvert scored.

Down 6-1 in the bottom of three, FC went to work scoring two runs. Thomas Delgadillo ripped a hard-hit single through the right side that brought Joey Parente across home plate. Tate Brock dropped down a bunt single scoring Delgadillo.

The Hornet offense broke out in the fifth and sixth innings scoring a combined total of seven runs that blew the game open. In the fifth, Fullerton dropped four runs on the Chargers to take the lead. Jake Anderson hit a single through the right side giving John Zanze the opportunity to score. Todd Yost grounded out to second but gave Chase Kerr the chance hustle home. Andrew Aguilar singled to right field scoring Anderson. Joey Parente hit a single that scored Aguilar. In the sixth, FC scored three more runs when a wild pitch gave Zanze the green light to rush home, and Brock's hard-hit single in the right center gap scored Anderson and Kerr.

In the seventh and eighth innings, Fullerton added another seven runs to seal the game. Zanze struck again in the seventh hitting a single up the middle scoring Parente. Brock hit a SAC fly to left scoring Delgadillo. In the eighth, the Hornets hammered in five more runs on a stand-up triple by Parente that brought Andrew Aguilar home, Delgadillo then knocked in Parente on a single, and Anderson hit a double to left that brought in Kerr, Zanze, and Delgaillo.

Up Next: The Hornets (15-21, 3-14) will wrap up the three-game Orange Empire Conference series play at Cypress this Saturday, April 22nd. The first pitch goes out at noon.
