SOFTBALL: OEC OPENER EQUALS WIN OVER CYPRESS

The #8 in SoCal FC softball team took a trip down the 91 Freeway on Wednesday to their district rival #2 Cypress College and knocked off the Chargers 3-2 to open Orange Empire Conference play.

The Hornet win improves their record to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the OEC, while the loss for Cypress marks their first of the season. Their record now stands at 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the OEC.

Fullerton took an early lead scoring a run in the top of the 2nd inning, but Cypress followed up with two runs of their own in their next at bat for a 2-1 lead.

The Chargers could not hold long as their bat went cold for the remainder of the game.

Fullerton was able to score the tying run in the top of the 5th and then added another run in the 7th to take the game 3-2.

Brigid Ruiz (2-1, 1-0 OEC) locked down her second win for the Hornets after giving up zero hits in her three innings pitched. Ruiz also stepped up offensively leading the Hornets with three hits, 1 RBI with 4 at bats.

Up Next: The Hornets will play at the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament February 13-14.
