BASEBALL: CHARGERS TAKE GAME ONE

The Hornets opened up an Orange Empire Conference three-game series with district rival Cypress College at home on Tuesday with the Chargers taking the game 10-5.

The Chargers put up the game's first run on the board in the first inning on a groundout by Brandon Gonzalez that allowed Aaron Case cross the plate.

They followed that in the second with with another groundout by Paul Gomez scoring Nathan Rodriguez. By the end of two, the Chargers led 2-0.

The Hornets got on the board in the third when Laine Huffman hit one to right field scoring Brett Halsz from second base.

Fullerton tied it up, 2-2, in the fourth on a deep SAC fly to left field giving Austin O'Banion the opportunity to score from third.

In the fifth, the Hornets took a 3-2 lead after intentionally walking Shane Carrier. The next batter in the lineup, O'Banion, made the Chargers pay with a low-flying rip to center field scoring Justin Row.

Cypress came back in the sixth to take back the lead putting up two runs on a SAC fly to center, and a hit to the right side by Case bringing Nathan Rodriguez home.

The Chargers added two more insurance runs in the seventh, but FC answered the call scoring two runs in the seventh to come within on at 6-5. With two runners on, David Miranda blistered one to right field for a bases-clearing triple.

In the eighth, Cypress seperated themselves from FC scoring another three runs, and in the ninth added one more insurance run to wrap up the victory.
