Cougars Win Duo of Games at Bakersfield Tounament

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The College of the Canyons softball team won both of its games on Sunday at the Bakersfield Tournament.

In the first game of the tournament, the Cougars defeated Mt. San Antonio 7-3.


COC jumped out to an early lead, as they scored three in the first inning and three in the third inning. Freshman outfielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon went 2-for-3 with a homer and a RBI and freshman third baseman Karlee Bickford had two hits and two RBIs. Sophomore pitcher Savannah Gutierrez pitched five innings and gave up one earned run.

In the second game, the Cougars dominated Cypress College 8-1. COC scored five runs in the third inning and two in the fourth and led the rest of the way.

Sophomore Kimmie Lockhart went 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs. Freshman Jessica Jones and Gutierrez combined for three hits and two RBIs.

The Cougars will host Reedley College for a double-header on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The first game is at noon and second game is at 2 p.m.
