SOFTBALL: HORNETS END SEASON AT SUPER REGIONALS

The #10 Lady Hornets finished their fine season over the weekend at the Super Regionals hosted by Cypress College.

On Friday, Fullerton opened up against #1 Cypress and was blanked by the Chargers 5-0 in game one of the double-elimination tournament. FC had 5 hits to the Chargers 6, however Cypress was able to capitalize on their opportunities.

Hornet pitcher Brigid Ruiz took the loss putting in 6 innings of work with 4 earned runs against, 2 walks and 3 K's.

Cypress pitcher Vanessa Ledesma took the win going 4.2 innings while giving up 4 hits and no runs. She had a walk and 2 strikeouts.

In their next game against #4 Palomar College, FC was held scoreless against the Comets in a 3-0 loss. All 3 of Palomar's runs were sacrifice flies (2nd, 4th, 6th innings), while the Hornets could only muster up 3 hits on the day.

Ruiz took the loss, but she threw a great game going 7 innings allowing 5 hits against, 3 earned, with a walk and 2 strikeouts.

Comet pitcher Summer Evans earned the win tossing 7 innings on 3 hits, with 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.

Cypress wound up winning the tourney after getting past Palomar advancing them to the State Championships at Bakersfield College May 21-22.

It was a great season for the Lady Hornets with many sophomores on the team that will be moving on to greater endeavors. For the freshman coming back, get ready for next season, as the Hornets don't rebuild they reload.
