Baseball Knocks Off #2 Cypress in Spring Break Tourney, 15-4, Hosts Merced at 11 AM

Cuesta, ranked #11, hosted #2 Cypress in the second game of the Cuesta/Hancock Spring Break Tournament.  The visiting Chargers scored in their first at bat, but Outfielders Makani Nabarro and Jack Clothier answered for Cuesta with home runs in the bottom of the inning and the Cougars never looked back.  Cuesta scored nine runs in the first three innings, including a second home run by Nabarro, to take a commanding lead, 9-1.  Both teams went scoreless in the 4th and 5th, but the Chargers regrouped for another run at the Cougars and put up three runs in the 6th.  Cuesta came back and dialed long distance again as Outfielder Nathan Reese (pict) capped the Cougars' six-run, sixth inning with a three-run homer to seal the victory.  In all, six Cuesta players enjoyed a multi-hit game, while First Baseman Ryan Skjonsby and Outfielder Robert Pitts combined to collect five of the Chargers' eight hits in the game.   Cuesta Starter Lukas Ward earned the victory, after handing the game off to Relievers Justin Cortez and Kaden Tynes for the final nine outs.  Cuesta is 20-7 on the season and their four home runs against the Chargers increased their team season total 41 round trippers, which is the most by a Cuesta team since hitting 61 in 2008.  The current school record is 75, set in 1999, when All-State Third Baseman Aaron Davidson set Cuesta's single season record with 23 home runs.

Due to impending weather, Cuesta and Merced have moved up the time of their tournament finale.  The Cougars and Blue Devils are now scheduled to begin play tomorrow at 11 AM.
