Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Kicks Off First Meeting of 2020-21

CYPRESS, CA - The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted their first meeting of the 2020-21 school year led by Head Men's Basketball Coach and Kinesiology Faculty member, Drew Alhadeff, and Athletic Director, Wes McCurtis.

The SAAC is a committee made up of student athletes assembled to provide insight on the student athlete experience and give students athletes a voice within the institution. SAAC offers input on the rules, regulations, and policies that affect student athletes' lives. Cypress College SAAC includes two student athletes from each of our fourteen athletic teams.

President, Kaden Headington, and Vice President, Lindsay Forester, are focused on creating valuable connections between the student athletes and campus faculty and staff. They are working on creating events that will incorprate all athletics teams (in-person or remote) to get to know each other and support one another. During the meeting second year transfer student, Malia Goldsmith, was elected into the Secratary role for SAAC. Malia is focused on getting creating a culture where athletic teams support each other and attend each other's games this season if possible.

 SAC President Kaden Headington

"My name is Kaden Headington. I am a sophomore on the Men's basketball team majoring in Businesss Marketing. This year I want to make athletes' presence known on campus by reaching out to the faculty and student body where we can have a more personal connection with them. Lindsay Forester, and I just started a Christian clothing brand where a percentage of all profits is donated to Tim Tebow's human sex trafficking foundation. In the future I would like to get more involved with that or a similar charity."

SAC Vice President Lindsay Forester

"My name is Lindsay Forester and I am a member of the women's soccer team. I am a second year student and a Communications major. I would like to improve the connection between all of our athletic teams to make it feel more like a family and not seperate sectors. I hope to make an impact by making all the new students feel welcomed! My goals after leaving Cypress are to make an impact with my clothing brand in hopes to make it a full-time side business. I would also like to transfer to a Cal State University close by and finish my degree so I can start my career and work my way up!"

SAC Secratary Malia Goldsmith

"My name is Malia Goldsmith and I am on the women's basketball team. I'm a transfer from Cal State University Fullerton, where I played my first year of basketball. I am a Business and Economics major. For Cypress Athletics, I would love if all the teams knew each other and could feel as a family when supporting each other at games. I want to transfer out to another Division 1 school for my last two years of basketball and continue into the business side of sports after college."

The Student Athletic Advisory Committe will continue to meet the first Thursday of each month @ 8:00am throughout the 2020-21 academic year. Please contact Drew Alhadeff if you are interested in getting involved aalhadeff@cypresscollege.edu
