2010s All-Decade Teams Released

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress Athletics has released eight all-decade teams compiled of the top six athletes on each team whom competed for their respective program between the 2010-2011 and 2019-2020 season. The following sports have qualified for an All-Decade Roster: Baseball, Softball, Men's/Women's Basketball, Women's Soccer, Women's Volleyball, Men's Golf, and Men's/Women's Swim & Dive. 

Cypress Athletics would like to honor the outstanding student athletes we've had over the past ten seasons. The student athlete's effort, along with their teammates, and guidance of Cypress head coaches have won 5 State Championships and 4 Individual State Championships. The Charger's have stayed competitve across all sports in the OEC (Orange Empire Conference) winning 19 OEC Championships. The Chargers have been fortuante enough to have six coaches: Scott Pickler (Baseball), Brad Pickler (Softball), Dana Bedard (Men's Golf), Nancy Welliver (Women's Indoor/Beach Volleyball), Margaret Mohr (Women's Basketball), and Larry Biedler (Men's/Women's Swim and Dive) coach their respective programs throughout the 2010s decade.

2010'S WOMEN'S ALL-DECADE TEAMS

Softball

The Cypress Softball All-Decade Team is the most competitve list of any sport at Cypress College. The six individuals selected to the team were hand picked by head coach, Brad Pickler. Pickler says, "There are over ten softball players deserving of the All-Decade Team selection and narrowing the roster down to six is an impossible task. I am grateful for the all the amazing student athletes I have been fortunate enough to coach and compete with." 

Jessica Reichner: 2x CCCAA State Champion, 2012 All-State Selection, 2012 OEC MVP, 2x First Team All-OEC, All-American, 2x All-Southern California Cypress Hall of Fame Inductee

Tiffany Fox: 1x State Champion, 2012 State Tournament MVP, 2x All-Southern California, 2x First Team All-OEC

Alejandra Guillen: 2015 All-State, 2015 All-Southern California, 2x First Team All-OEC. Guillen was one of the top pitchers on the Charger roster while batting third in the lineup.

Taylor Pierce: 2x All-State, 2x All-American, 2x First Team All-OEC, 2x State Champion, 2016 OEC MVP

Melanie Okazaki: First Team All-State, All-State Tournamnent Team, 2017 Undefeated State Champion, 2x First Team All-OEC, leadoff hitter and center fielder for the Chargers

Sydney McCollum: 2x All-State, 2x All-American, 2x OEC MVP, 2x First Team All-OEC, 2017 Undefeated State Champion

 

Women's Basketball

Over the decade Cypress women's basketball averaged over 21 wins per year, going 214-91 overall. They made the playoffs all ten seasons, advancing to the Final Four in 2011. They were dominant in OEC play winning 80% of their games and taking home five OEC championships. The coaching staff is most proud that they have had over thirty players move on to play at four year universities.

Micaela Pickens: 2011 Player of the Year, 2011 OEC MVP, led the Chargers the Final Four. Pickens also led the Chargers in scoring, rebounds, steals, and blocks in both her Freshman and Sophomore seasons at Cypress.

Melissa Jensen: 2x All-OEC, 2012 OEC Champion, Academic All-State Selection (3.98 GPA)

Sloan Turner: 2x OEC Champion, 2013 OEC MVP, 2013 First Team All-State, Cypress single-season record holder for blocks (117), Cypress career record holder for blocks (182)

Jeana Magana: 2x First Team All-OEC, 2013 OEC Champion, #3 All-Time in Cypress three-pointers made (104).

Erika Nilsen: 2016 OEC Champion, First Team All-OEC Selection, Third Team All-State, 2x Academic All-State honors

Jessica Barrow: Barrow played her first season at Cypress in 2019-2020. She was the first freshman to receive All-State honors while also being named First Team All-OEC. Barrow led the team in scoring while knocking down 60 three pointers. 

 

Women's Volleyball

Head Coach, Nancy Welliver, had this to say about the All-Decade Team selection: "I have had some great players in the past 20 seasons here at Cypress College.  These 6 from the last 10 years were great because they not only were great player themselves but also made their teammates better players."

Marina Samoa: 2x All-Southern California, 2x First Team All-OEC, #1 in career kills, #2 in career aces, #3 in career digs 

Giajaida Vargas: 2010 All-State, 2x OEC MVP, #1 in career assists, #1 in career aces

Nicole Boyle: 2010 All-State, First Team All-OEC, #4 in career kills

Kayla Owens: 2018 All-Southern California, 2x All-OEC, #2 in career kills

Lindsey Ray: All-Southern California, First Team All-OEC, #4 in career kills per set.

Madison May: All-Southern California, First Team All-OEC, #3 in single season kills

 

Women's Soccer

Women's soccer coach, Erick Hurtarte, says "All players were instrumental athletes for the continued success of our program, and to continue the legacy built by Ray Haas.  We are all proud of all our athletes.  Our staff is very proud to be part of all the Academic/Athletic opportunities provided by the school."

Megan Ollar: 2x First Team All-OEC 

Madison Van Dine: First Team All-OEC and 2011 Team Captain

Hina Lilii: 2x First Team All-OEC

Kayla Arenas: 2x First Team All-OEC

Kendra Serrano: 2x First Team All-OEC and 2015 Team Captain

 

 

2010'S MEN'S ALL-DECADE TEAMS

Baseball

Cypress baseball saw the 2010's as a very successful decade for their program. They sent over 130 athletes to four year universities and watched twelve players get selected in the MLB draft. 

Andrew Quezada:  Threw the first no-hitter in Cypress baseball history, 2017 First Team All-American, 2017 OEC Pitcher of the Year, #2 All Time in career wins, drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 7th round of the 2018 MLB Draft

Dylan Moore: 2013 State Champion, drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2015 MLB Draft, made his Major League Debut in 2019 with the Seattle Mariners

Robert Chavarria: 2013 State Champion and 2013 First Team All-OEC

Dominic Campeau: First Team All-American, 2018 OEC Player of Year, transferred to Long Beach State University. 

Elijah Skipps: First Team All-OEC Selection, 2016 Final Four Appearance, transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. 

Brad Hartong: Career batting average of .364, transferred to University of Indiana

 

Men's Golf

Men's golf coach, Dana Bedard, has coached over 20 seasons at Cypress College. The past three seasons have been each of the best of his career. Cypress got over the hump and took their first State Championship victory in 2018. The Chargers won the OEC title in 2019 and look poised to chase their second championship in 2020. Cypress golf was ranked #1 in the California before their season was cut short due to the pandemic. 

Dylan Hall: 2017 Individual State Champion, First Team All-Region Selection, 2x All-OEC

Matthew Rafter: 2018 State Champion, First Team All-Region, OEC Player of the Year

Georgios Bris: 2018 State Champion, First Team All-State

David Marris: 2018 State Champion, First Team All-State, OEC Player of the Year

Andrew Thomson: 2018 State Champion, First Team All-State, First Team All-Region

Nick Garrett: 10th place finish in the 2010 state tournament, All-OEC selection 

 

Men's Basketball

 

Cypress men's basketball began a new era in 2014 with the hiring of head coach, Andrew Alhadeff. Coach Alhadeff is focused on bringing the winning tradition back to Cypress basketball and he has proven that in his first 6 seasons. Coach Alhadeff deems the OEC the most competitve conference in California, and has led his team to three state playoff appearances.

Jeremy Wright: 2x First Team All-OEC, 2016 Team Captain, Led the Chargers in assists in back to back seasons

Jordan Fleck: First Team All-OEC, #2 in OEC scoring

O'Shae Williams: First Team All-OEC, Led the Chargers in (points, rebounds, assists) in the 2016-2017 season

Brennon Plamer: First Team All-OEC, Led the Chargers in scoring in 2018 

David Gonzalez: First Team All-OEC, Cypress single-game scoring record (50 points), scoring average record (21.7 ppg)

Nolan Kelly: First Team All-OEC selection and 2016 team captain

 

Men's/Women's Swim and Dive

Sam Fandrich: 2x 2010 OEC Champion, 5x All-American, 200y freestyle record holder, Cypress Hall of Fame inductee

Jeff Tsim: 4x All-American, 5x Cypress College record holder, 2x 2012 state qualifier

Damon Chandler: 2012 OEC Champion, 2x All-American, 5x Cypress record holder, 2x 2012 state qualifier

Alejandra Gomez: 3x State Champion, 4x All-American, 2x State record holder

Meghan Efseaff: 3x All-American, 2020 team captain, 3x state qualifier

Jacelyn Youngerman: 2013 OEC Champion, 11x All-American, 6x Cypress record holder, OEC 50y free record holder
