Chargers Introduce Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)

By Wes McCurtis

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College PE/Athletics Department held its first ever Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meeting on campus last Friday.

Head men's basketball coach, Andrew Alhadeff, formed the committee to help give student-athletes a voice on campus. SAAC will meet regularly to discuss how they can enhance their experience as student-athletes at Cypress College. Before the 2017-2018 academic year, each program will have at least one representative on the committee.

Shawn Larkins of the men's basketball team was elected president during the inaugural meeting. "As a committee we hope to voice the needs of student-athletes, unify all the teams, and get involved in the community," said Larkins.

The overall goal is to create a stronger bond between student-athletes on campus and to regularly connect them with faculty, staff, and administrators.
