UPDATE:

Last updated: 7/15/2020

Because of the state-mandated directives requiring continued social distancing to flatten the COVID-19 curve, Cypress College has decided to continue our current remote instruction through the end of the Fall 2020 semester.  We will continue in this mode as part of the existing health directives for an unknown period of time. This section provides students and employees with current information, links to resources, and answers to common questions. Please continue to also check your email for updates.

The CCCAA Board of Directors overwhelmingly approved implementation of its Contingency Plan on Thursday (July 9), providing a return to intercollegiate athletics for the 2020-21 academic year that shifts all sports to the spring season. The Contingency Plan was among three potential scenarios approved by the Board in early June. Each plan was wholly dependent on which phase of reopening from the COVID-19 pandemic the state of California was in on the CCCAA's previously announced July 17 decision date. The return to athletics in January will only occur if it is safe to do so, a decision that will be guided primarily by state and local health guidelines.

The Contingency Plan can be viewed here.

We understand this has been a challenging time for you and your families, and appreciate your patience as we navigate this shifting landscape. We are here to support you in your educational needs.

FAQ's Regarding Athlete Eligibility

March 19, 2020- The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Board of Directors voted unanimously on Thursday that the remainder of the 2020 spring sports season will be canceled, the spring season of competition for approximately 9,500 student-athletes will be restored and face-to-face recruiting and recruiting-related travel is being prohibited immediately but will be re-evaluated next month.

The following FAQ is being provided by https://www.cccaasports.org/landing/index to help provide answers and will be updated as information becomes available and as new questions emerge.

What Cypress College spring sports are impacted by the announcement?
Baseball, women's beach volleyball, men's golf, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, and women's tennis. Additionally, the 2020 CCCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships have been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

Are athletes allowed to come to campus for practices, instruction, use of FITLAB or other areas?

No, student athletes should not be on campus for practices, instruction, or use of FITLAB until further notice.

How does the postponement of sports affect student-athlete eligibility?
The Board of Directors subsequently voted that nearly 9,500 student-athletes who competed this spring will have their season of competition restored, provided they had not quit or been cut from their teams prior to the seasons being postponed by the CCCAA on March 12. The restoration only applies to the student-athletes’ status within the CCCAA.

Will the CCCAA declare any of the remaining 16 men's and women's basketball teams as state champions using some kind of metric such as overall record, poll, RPI or another rating service?
It is unfortunate that we were not able to determine men's and women's state champions but since winners could not be decided on the court, the 2020 champions will be listed as "Not determined."
